Top Tips on How to start the new year off on a healthy note?

It’s 2023 and we all have the best intentions to be fitter, healthier and happier! Here are three simple and pocket-friendly self-care and wellness tips to get you started.

1. Sleep More…Zzzzzz

How do you start the new year off healthy?- Sleep 

Yes, we love this one too! Quality sleep is vital for good health and more important than ever. We all want to wake up refreshed and ready for the day ahead. But  when texting, scrolling on our phones, working or watching TV, light from our screens can delay the transition to sleep, keeping our brains busy rather than calm and relaxed. Studies have shown that two or more hours of screen time in the evening can seriously disrupt the melatonin surge needed to fall asleep.

So, consider turning off all electronic devices at least one hour before sleep, at a minimum. Swap pre-sleep screen time for a new or favourite book, some relaxing yoga, meditation or journaling. Or, at least once a week, treat yourself to a relaxing and soothing warm (not hot) bath with our magnesium-rich and Guaranteed Irish Epsom Salts. During these colder months we tend to wrap up warm and sometimes neglect our skin care routines. Central heating can dehydrate the skin, leaving it dull, dry and flaky. For skin that glows, make time each day to moisturise using a rich moisturiser such as Coconut Oil on the body, in particular on very dry patches such as the knees and legs. 3. Move More!

If like many if you find it tricky to make time for exercise, try to find a way of exercising that you enjoy and will maintain. Join an online exercise class or set a time each week to meet with friends for a class or to catch up when walking or jogging.  A simple but effective tip is to keep exercise equipment out where it can be easily used. For example hand or leg weights, exercise mats etc. Make sure to stretch properly before and after exercise and apply our Muscle Recovery Gel to soothe tired, sore muscles.  If you are working and sitting at a desk all day, set an hourly timer to get up, move and sip some water. Standing desks are a great way to increase movement and help with good posture and reduce muscle stiffness.
