The Benefits of Rose Water

How Rose Water Benefits Hair and Skin

Rosewater is made by distilling or simmering rose petals in water. This process extracts the rose petals’ fragrance and oils into the water, leaving an infusion behind.  Rose waters anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties give it many skin benefits as a natural toner

The Properties of Rose Water:

  • Antioxidant properties: can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by free radicals.
  • Antibacterial properties: prohibit or control the growth of microorganisms as the antimicrobial agent destroys the organism’s structure.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: that reduce inflammation (redness, swelling, and pain) in the body.

Rose Water Benefits:

  1. Cleansing

The cleansing properties of rose water help to remove oil and dirt that has accumulated in clogged pores. Rosewater is a natural astringent, which means it is a powerful facial toner that draws out the excess oil that causes breakouts and tightens pores, making it ideal for oily skin.  The best and simplest way to use rose water is to apply it at night to remove any impurities that have accumulated on the face during the day.

  2. Rose Water for Acne

Rosewater may reduce the appearance of acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties that will reduce redness in the affected areas.  Antimicrobial properties can help prevent acne by keeping bacteria on the surface of the skin under control.  As rose water is an astringent, it may prevent problems like blackheads, whiteheads and pimples by drawing oil and bacteria out of clogged pores.

  3. Rose Water for Anti-Aging

Rose water’s antioxidant properties help to strengthen skin cells and regenerate skin tissues, making it an essential component of any anti-ageing skincare regimen.  Free radicals are produced when people are exposed to harmful UV radiation, pollution, harsh chemicals in skincare products, or stress.  The free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells and speed up ageing.  Rose petals are high in antioxidants, which protect skin from damage such as fine lines and wrinkles caused by UV rays and pollution.

  4. Rose Water for Hydrating the Skin

When used alongside another moisturises, rose water hydrates the skin best. Its antioxidant and antibacterial properties help to strengthen the skin’s barrier, reducing water loss. When combined with other hydrating ingredients like ceramides or glycerine, rose water becomes even more hydrating.

  5. Makeup Refresh

A few sprits can be used to prep skin for makeup and even freshen makeup after a long day.  Rosewater can be used to prime the face before makeup application and as a refreshing mask to soften and brighten a makeup look.

  6. The Benefits of Rosewater for Hair

Rosewater can moisturise the scalp and minimise the effects of heat and pollution on dry and curly hair. Apply Rose Water and Glycerine on the scalp with the help of cotton pads and massage for 10-15 minutes. Let it stay for another 30 minutes and wash off with shampoo.   To calm hair on the go, spray rose mist onto your hair with a spray bottle whenever you want to reduce frizz or add a spritz of scent

  7. Rosewater for Scalp Care

Dandruff and irritation occur when the scalp is oily.  As rose water is a natural astringent, it helps prevent the excess build-up of oil on the scalp.  Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can relieve scalp irritation.  Using cotton swabs, apply rose water directly to the scalp. Massage it in gently to reduce dandruff and itching. After that, shampoo and rinse as usual.
